Etta James (1938-2012)

Vừa nghe tin Etta James đã ra đi về bên kia thế giới sau mấy năm bệnh leukemia.  Một sự mất trong âm nhạc Jazz/Blue/Soul.

Có lần tôi viết 1 chút về bài At Last do Etta James hát mà tôi nghe đi nghe lại nhiếu lần.  Bài đó là trong những bài nổi tiếng nhất của Etta James.  Nhạc của Etta James đến với tôi muộn màng.  Tôi mới biết và nghe nhạc Etta James trong vòng 2 năm nay thôi.  Cái album đầu tiên của Etta James tôi mua là đĩa vinyl record (đĩa than) trong 1 tiệm nhạc cũ.  Nhạc Etta James phải tìm và nghe những album vinyl xưa xưa khi âm thanh còn là analog mới cảm giác và cảm nhận như mình đang lên xe về quá khứ, về lại một thời xa…

At Last Etta James

Etta James: Her Greatest Sides vinyl record

Wow, what a big, deep, soulful voice.  I’ve been listening to Etta James vinyl album named Etta James: Her Greatest Sides vol. 1.  There are a few songs in this album that I like, Sunday Kind Of Love, Stop The Wedding and Tell Mama but my favorite is At Last.  I love her rendition of this song when her soulful voice slowly begins with lot of feelings and expressive ‘At last, my love has come along …‘.  In order to appreciate her style and her singing, a vinyl record playing on a vinyl player is a must.  With vinyl record, the sound is more real, more authentic and more characters to the voice and the music.

Most of people are familiar with this song because of Beyonce sang at President Obama inauguration and nothing against Beyonce, but Beyonce can’t touch Etta James with this song.
